Sao Paulo Viracopos International Airport, located in Campinas, 90 km north Sao Paulo city and in Sao Paulo state, has experienced a huge increase in passenger traffic over the last seven years, reaching 10 million passengers in 2015.
This increase is largely due to the installation of Azul, an airline formed in 2008, which choose Viracopos as its principal base and hub, mainly with domestic flights.
Viracopos is also one of the most important airports for cargo traffic in South America, with an average of 250,000 tonnes a year. Elected in 2015, best Latin America cargo airport.
In the coming years Viracopos International Airport will be connected to the economic center of Sao Paulo by a high speed train link, increasing its importance as the second international airport of Sao Paulo state.
